Supporting Aerobic Wastewater Treatment Performance

Aerobic wastewater treatment relies on microorganisms to break down organic matter in the presence of oxygen. Changes in organic loading and wastewater characteristics can affect biological performance, commissioning time and treatment stability.

BactaServe Aerobic is a microbial bioculture containing acclimatised microbes, developed to support biological treatment in Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). It is designed to support MLSS growth, improve BOD and COD removal, and help stabilise treatment performance during shock loads.

Key Benefits of BactaServe Aerobic

BactaServe Aerobic supports biological activity and operational performance in aerobic wastewater treatment systems.

  • Reduced Commissioning Time: Helps reduce the time required to establish biological treatment in ETPs and STPs.

  • Rapid MLSS Growth: Supports faster MLSS growth with a high MLVSS content.

  • Improved BOD and COD Removal: Acclimatised microbes support the biological breakdown of organic matter.

  • Support for COD-Degrading Microorganisms: Promotes the growth of COD degraders and helps suppress pathogen growth.

  • Shock-Load Stabilisation: Supports treatment stability and performance during variations in wastewater loading.

  • Odour and Operational Cost Management: Helps reduce foul odours from ETPs and STPs and supports lower operational costs by helping avoid downtime.

How BactaServe Aerobic Works

BactaServe Aerobic contains acclimatised microorganisms intended to support biological wastewater treatment. These microbes contribute to the breakdown of organic matter and support the biological processes involved in BOD and COD removal.

The formulation also supports MLSS growth with a high MLVSS content and promotes the growth of COD-degrading microorganisms. By supporting biological activity during variations in organic loading, it can help stabilise treatment performance during shock loads.

The results depend on wastewater characteristics, organic load and the operating conditions of the treatment system.

Applications of BactaServe Aerobic

BactaServe Aerobic is designed for aerobic biological treatment in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs): Supports biological treatment of industrial wastewater and helps improve BOD and COD removal.

  • Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs): Supports microbial activity and biological treatment performance in sewage treatment systems.

  • Systems Experiencing Shock Loads: Helps stabilise biological treatment performance when wastewater loading changes.

  • Treatment Systems Requiring Faster Start-Up: Supports microbial establishment and MLSS growth during commissioning.

Suitable Wastewater Treatment Systems

BactaServe Aerobic is applicable to the following biological treatment processes:

  • Activated Sludge Process (ASP): For conventional suspended-growth aerobic treatment.

  • Extended Aeration Process (E-ASP): For extended-aeration biological wastewater treatment.

  • Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR): For batch-based biological treatment and wastewater processing.

  • Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR): For biological treatment using attached-growth biofilm media.

  • Membrane Bioreactor (MBR): For biological treatment combined with membrane separation.

  • Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC): For attached-growth biological treatment using rotating media.

Dosage and Application Procedure

The quantity of BactaServe Aerobic required depends on wastewater volume and organic load.

  • Preparation Ratio: Mix 1 kg of BactaServe Aerobic in 20 litres of feed water. For larger quantities, the brochure gives 2 kg in 40 litres as an example.

  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly with the feed water before application.

  • Dosing: Apply the prepared mixture according to the detailed dosage schedule for the treatment system.

  • Dosage Adjustment: Determine the daily quantity according to wastewater volume and organic load.

For the appropriate daily dose and application schedule, refer to the product-specific dosing guidance or contact our technical team.

Important Application Considerations

The performance of BactaServe Aerobic depends on the characteristics and operating conditions of the biological treatment system.

  • Wastewater volume: Consider the volume being treated when determining the required daily quantity.

  • Organic load: Account for variations in organic loading when establishing the dosage.

  • Treatment configuration: Confirm that the product is being used in a suitable aerobic process, such as ASP, E-ASP, SBR, MBBR, MBR or RBC.

  • Preparation and dosing: Follow the recommended mixing ratio and the detailed dosage schedule.
