Bio-Trickling Filter (BTF) is an advanced biological odour control system that removes unpleasant and harmful gases from industrial air streams. It uses specialised microorganisms that grow on specially designed packing media to break down odour-causing compounds such as hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), mercaptans and VOCs. Instead of using harsh chemicals, the system biologically converts these pollutants into harmless by-products, providing effective, sustainable and environmentally friendly odour control.

How Does the AmerAir Bio-Trickling Filter System Work?

The AmerAir® system utilises an engineered counter-current process to maximise gas-liquid mass transfer and support efficient biological degradation.

1. Extraction

A heavy-duty fan extracts foul air from source areas such as sewage wet wells, screen channels, sludge holding tanks and ETP units, and directs it into the bottom of the filter tower.

2. Ascent & Dissolution

The gas stream travels upward through the specialised packing bed, while fresh water or utility water flows downward through automated spray nozzles. During this process, the odorous compounds dissolve into the liquid phase.

3. Biological Oxidation

Specialised microorganisms attached to the packing media consume the dissolved gases as a food source. Through biological oxidation, the pollutants are converted into harmless, odour-free by-products.

4. Clean Discharge

The treated air is released safely through the top of the tower, significantly reducing odours and improving air quality.
